NFPA 1901 Lighting Specification Catalog

Product catalog summary
Overview: The document provides comprehensive specifications and requirements for lighting systems on automotive fire apparatus, adhering to NFPA 1901 standards. It covers lighting packages, photometric requirements, and compliance guidelines for vehicles of different sizes, specifically over and under 25 feet.
Specifications: The document outlines the minimum optical power requirements for zones A, B, C, and D on fire apparatus, detailing upper and lower level requirements with specific candela-second/minute values. It also specifies color requirements for different operational scenarios such as 'Calling for Right of Way' and 'Blocking Right of Way'.
Lighting Packages: Options for M Series and Hundred Series lighting packages are provided, tailored for vehicles over and under 25 feet. These packages include various configurations of Super-LED lightheads, with options for different colors and mounting positions to meet zone requirements.
Measurement Procedures: The document details procedures for measuring lighting specifications, including testing modules at various angles and calculating total candela-second/minutes. Emphasis is placed on meeting minimum requirements for each test point and zone.
Load Management: It highlights the importance of load management to prevent battery discharge and ensure the alternator's output capacity is not exceeded. Collaboration between purchasers and manufacturers is advised to prioritize load management for each piece of equipment.
Compliance and Certification: A certificate of compliance section ensures that all optical and electrical warning devices are installed according to NFPA 1901 standards. Certification is contingent upon all devices being installed and wired as per the standard and manufacturer specifications.
Whelen Engineering Systems: The document also provides specifications for Whelen Engineering's lighting and siren systems, designed to meet NFPA 1901 standards. It includes information on lightheads, siren amplifiers, speakers, and mounting brackets.
Siren Amplifiers: The 295 Series Sirens offer multiple tones, public address capabilities, and hands-free operation, with a 5-year warranty. ALPHA Sirens provide economical options with 100 or 200 watts of power, and the HOWLER system adds low-frequency tones for enhanced warning in high-risk areas.
Speakers and Mounting: 100-watt speakers are available for various vehicle models, with specific mounting brackets. Projector Series speakers exceed California Title XIII standards, producing 122.5dB.
Lightbars and Beacons: Various models of lightbars and beacons are detailed, including Freedom, Justice, and Micro Edge series, with specifications on voltage, amperage, and dimensions.

NFPA 1901 Lighting Specifications Measurements Summary Sheet How to Measure Lighting Specifications EXAMPLE: Zone A Upper, Clearing the Right of Way Measurements. 1. Test all modules distributing light 45° right and 45° left at 5° increments (19 test points, total). 2. Add all 19 test points together for each module and add these modules together. For example: A rotating lamp has the same reading at all 19 points (i.e. 120 candela seconds in Red) 19 x 120 = 2280. There are four of these identical rotators in Zone A 4 x 2280 = 9120. There is also one Clear rotator in Zone A that produces 600 candela....
