VDM® Powder 780

VDM® Powder 780

Product catalog summary
Introduction
VDM® Powder 780 is a nickel-cobalt-chromium alloy powder designed for additive manufacturing. It is age-hardenable through the addition of niobium, titanium, and aluminum, and is characterized by spherical particles, high purity, low oxygen content, good weldability, and high temperature oxidation resistance.

Specifications
  • Designations and Standards: Based on VDM® Alloy 718, with EN designation 2.4960 - NiCr18Co25Nb5Mo3Al2.
  • Chemical Composition: Contains elements such as Cr, Fe, Ni, Mo, Co, Nb+Ta, Al, Ti, with low oxygen content up to 0.03%.
  • Physical Properties: Density of 8.25 g/cm3 at 20°C, melting range of 1,240 – 1,355°C.
  • Microstructural Properties: Austenitic microstructure with γ’-formation during precipitation hardening.

Corrosion Resistance
High chromium and cobalt content provide good high temperature oxidation resistance.

Applications
VDM® Powder 780 is suitable for static and rotating components in aircraft turbines, stationary gas turbines, rocket drives, spacecraft, motor vehicle turbochargers, high-strength screws, springs, and heat-resistant tools.

Availability
Available in particle fractions from 10 to 250 µm, with standard fractions of 15-53 µm and 53-150 µm. Oxygen content is typically below 0.02%. Additional fractions available upon request.

Physical properties Density Microstructural properties VDM® Powder 780 has an austenitic microstructure where different phases can occur. By means of different heat treatments, graduated mechanical properties of the material can be achieved. The excellent mechanical properties of VDM ® Powder 780 result from the γ’-formation during precipitation hardening. Corrosion resistance As a result of the high chromium and cobalt content, conventionally manufactured VDM® Alloy 780 has a good high temperature oxidation resistance. Applications VDM® Powder 780 can be used for many demanding applications....
