VDM® Powder 718

VDM® Powder 718

VDM® Powder 718

Product catalog summary
Introduction
VDM® Powder 718 is a nickel-chrome-iron-molybdenum alloy powder designed for additive manufacturing. It is age-hardenable through the addition of niobium, titanium, and aluminum, and is characterized by spherical particles, high purity, and low oxygen content.

Designations and Standards
The material is designated under various standards such as EN 2.4668, ISO NiCr19Nb5Mo3, UNS N07718, and AFNOR NC19FeNb.

Chemical Composition
The alloy's composition includes nickel, chromium, iron, molybdenum, and niobium, with specific limits on elements like carbon and niobium to optimize microstructure and mechanical properties for different applications.

Physical Properties
VDM® Powder 718 has a density of 8.26 g/cm³ at 20°C and a melting range of 1,257-1,342°C.

Microstructural Properties
The alloy has an austenitic microstructure, and its mechanical properties can be tailored through heat treatments. The γ’’-formation during precipitation hardening contributes to its excellent mechanical properties.

Applications
VDM® Powder 718 is used in aircraft turbines, gas turbines, rocket drives, turbochargers, high-strength screws, and heat-resistant tools. A variant, VDM® Powder 718 CTP, is used in the oil and gas industry.

Availability
The powder is available in particle sizes ranging from 15 to 250 µm, with standard fractions of 15-53 µm and 53-150 µm, and an oxygen content of less than 0.03%.
