Product catalog summary
Quick Reference Overview: This document provides a quick reference for the weight and balance data of the RV-7 aircraft. It is important to note that this chart is not a substitute for the complete information found in Section 14 of the Builder’s Manual.
Key Cautions:
  • The Gross Weight is determined by the builder, who acts as the manufacturer.
  • Aerobatic flight should not be conducted at weights exceeding 1600 lbs or with center of gravity (CG) outside the aerobatic CG limit.
Specifications:
  • Datum: 70 inches forward of the wing leading edge.
  • Design C.G. Range: 15%-29% of wing chord or 78.7-86.82 inches aft of Datum.
  • Recommended Gross Weight: 1800 lbs.
  • Aerobatic Gross Weight: 1600 lbs.
  • Aerobatic Aft CG Limit: 25% of chord or 84.5 inches aft of Datum.
Arms:
  • Fuel: 80.0 inches aft of datum.
  • Pilot & Passenger: 97.48 inches aft of datum.
  • Baggage: 126.78 inches aft of datum.
Procedure for Determining Empty CG:
  1. Level the aircraft longitudinally and laterally using the longerons in the cabin area as the level reference.
  2. Weigh the airplane with the canopy closed, full oil, and empty fuel tanks.
  3. Enter the weights and distances from the datum (arm) in the provided chart.
  4. Multiply weight by arm to obtain moment.
  5. Divide the total moment by the weight to determine the empty CG.
