TIMETAL 50A

Product catalog summary
Overview: TIMETAL 50A is a commercially pure titanium, equivalent to ASTM Grade 2, known for its industrial applications due to its excellent mechanical properties and resistance to corrosion and erosion. It is widely used in sectors such as CPI, Petrochemical, Oil & Gas, and Naval/Marine.
Specifications: TIMETAL 50A guarantees a minimum 0.2% yield strength of 40 ksi (275 MPa) and is approved by ASME. It is suitable for continuous service up to 800°F (425°C) and intermittent service up to 1000°F (540°C). The material is easily weldable, machinable, and can be cold or hot worked.
Chemical Composition: The primary element is titanium, with oxygen (0.25%), nitrogen (0.03%), carbon (0.08%), iron (0.30%), hydrogen (0.015%), and residual elements making up the rest.
Physical Properties: The density is 4.51 g/cm³, with a beta transus temperature of 915°C. It has a thermal conductivity of 21.79 W/m·K and is nonmagnetic.
Mechanical Properties: Typical mechanical properties include an ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and 0.2% yield strength (YS) with good elongation and reduction in area. The material exhibits excellent fatigue and tensile properties at elevated temperatures.
Heat Treatment: TIMETAL 50A can be annealed and stress relieved under specific conditions to enhance its properties.
Applications: Due to its properties, TIMETAL 50A is extensively used in seawater piping, reactor vessels, and heat exchangers.
Technical Support: For further information, TIMET provides technical support through various offices in North America and Europe.

TIMETAL 50A-1

TIMETAL® 5 0A COMMERCIALLY PURE TITANIUM TIMETAL 50A is equivalent to ASTM Grade 2. It is the “workhorse" for industrial applications, having a guaranteed minimum 0.2% yield strength of 40 ksi (275 MPa) and good ductility and formability. TIMETAL 50A is used extensively for sea water piping, reactor vessels and heat exchangers throughout the CPI, Petrochemical, Oil & Gas and Naval/Marine markets. It also is ASME approved, has good impact properties at low temperatures, and has excellent resistance to erosion and corrosion by seawater and marine atmospheres. TIMETAL 50A is typically used in continuous service up to 800°F (425°C) and in intermittent service up to 1000°F (540°C). In addition TIMETAL 50A can be easily welded, machined, cold worked, hot worked, and cast.
