Electro-Thermal Actuator

Electro-Thermal Actuator

Product catalog summary
Overview
The Thermotion 740 Series Electro-Thermal Actuator is designed to deliver high output force over a long stroke length from a compact package. It is intended for vertical installation with wire leads mounted down.
Features
  • Linear Output
  • Low Cost
  • Full Force Throughout Stroke
  • High Force-to-Weight Ratio
  • Low Friction
  • Silent Operation (both electrically and audibly)
  • Custom Designs Available Upon Request
Applications
Typical applications include damper controls, automotive four-wheel drive engagement, valve control, louver motion, latch-lock mechanisms, and other applications requiring smooth, strong, and consistent force.
Operation
When energized, a heater vaporizes the working fluid in the boiler chamber, creating pressure that moves the rolling diaphragm, piston, and piston rod. When de-energized, a spring returns the piston rod to its original position.
Specifications
  • Input Power: Voltage options include 12, 24, 120, or 240 VAC/VDC
  • Current: 0.2 Amps @ 110 VAC, 1.5 Amps @ 12 VDC
  • Stroke Length: 0.75 inches nominal (19mm)
  • Maximum Force: 30 lbs. gross (133 Newtons)
  • Agency Approval: 120 volt units are UL listed
  • Mechanical Dimensions: All dimensions and specifications are nominal and subject to change
Graph Analysis
The graph illustrates the displacement and current over time for a 12-volt actuator under a 2 lb load at 70°F, showing the actuator's performance characteristics.
