Product catalog summary
Overview of Twaron®
Twaron® is a high-performance para-aramid yarn developed by Teijin Aramid, recognized for its exceptional strength, low weight, and durability. It is extensively used in industries such as automotive, protective gear, defense, and marine applications due to its superior performance over competitor materials.
Production Process
The production of Twaron® involves three stages: polymerization, continuous filament yarn spinning, and converting. Initially, monomers are combined into a para-aramid polymer. The polymer is then dissolved in sulfuric acid to form a liquid crystalline solution, which is spun into fine filament yarns. The converting stage includes crimping, cutting, and fibrillating to produce various forms like staple fibers, short-cut fibers, and pulp.
Types of Twaron®
Twaron® is available in different forms, including filament yarn, staple fiber, short-cut fiber, pulp, and powder, each tailored for specific applications such as protective clothing and engineering plastics. Filament yarns are categorized by mechanical properties: standard modulus/high elongation, high modulus, and high tenacity.
Unique Properties
Twaron® offers a unique combination of high strength, high modulus, excellent thermal stability, and good chemical resistance. It maintains mechanical properties across a wide temperature range and is fire-resistant due to a high limiting oxygen index. Its dimensional stability is ensured by a low thermal expansion coefficient and minimal creep behavior.
Value and Sustainability
Teijin Aramid is committed to sustainable value creation by offering durable and recyclable aramid products. Twaron® helps reduce carbon footprints and conserve raw materials. The company focuses on minimizing aramid waste and recycling used products to ensure sustainability.
Teijin Aramid’s Customer Benefit Model
The Customer Benefit Model, certified to ISO14040/14044, evaluates the eco-economics of solutions by analyzing the lifecycle of aramid products. This model shows how using aramid materials like Twaron® can reduce environmental impact and improve economic returns by enhancing qualities such as rolling resistance and material use.
Research and Development
Teijin Aramid prioritizes innovation and cooperation to drive sustainability and cost-efficiency. With global R&D sites, the company develops aramid products to meet customer requirements and supports end-product design, allowing rapid response to customer needs.
Quality, Health, Safety & Environment (QHSE)
Teijin Aramid adheres to global standards for environmental protection and health and safety, holding certifications like ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, and EcoVadis Gold Recognition, ensuring compliance and excellence in QHSE.
Company Vision
Teijin Aramid is dedicated to shaping a better future through continuous improvement and collaboration. Their high-performance materials, including Twaron®, are used in diverse markets, enhancing durability, protection, and efficiency.

How is Twaron® produced? Dedicated specialists in our manufacturing departments continually monitor the production of Twaron®, which is made from monomers in three stages: polymerization, continuous filament yarn spinning and converting. Polymerization Polymerization During the first stage, the monomers are combined into a firm, fine-grained para-aramid polymer. This material has the typical heat resistance and chemical properties of para-aramid. The fine-grained powder can be used to improve the properties of plastic components. However, the powder does not yet possess the distinctive mechanical...

Twaron® filament yarn can be converted into short-cut fibers or dipped chopped fibers with fiber lengths of between 0.25 mm and 12 mm for use in, for instance, engineering plastic applications. Twaron® is available in powder form, specified by the particle size. Applications can be found in engineering plastics, coatings and rubber compounds. To produce pulp, Twaron® filament yarn is first cut, suspended in water and then fibrillated. The characteristic properties of pulp are determined by the fibril length and the specific surface area, which is a measure of the amount of fibrillation. Twaron®...
