The limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) of > 45 %, (depending on the fiber density), means that an oxygen content of at least 45 % is required before the fibers will burn. As the normal oxygen content of air is only 21 %, this mean that, under normal circumstances, PANOX will not burn at all. PANOX® thermally stabilized textile fibers PANOX is an oxidized polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fiber which does not burn, melt, soften or drip. It is made by means of thermal stabilization of PAN at 300 °C. This results in an oxidized textile fiber with a carbon content of approx. 62 %. Thanks to its special properties, such as an LOI (Limited Oxygen Index) value of > 45 % oxygen – depending on density of oxidation – PANOX can be used in many different fields as an effective protection against fire and heat.
