SB PPG Aerospace Transparencies TECHNICAL DATA PPG Aerospace - Transparencies is a leading and experienced manufacturer of original-equipment and replacement windshields for Piaggio P.180 airplanes. PPG worked with Piaggio to design the all-glass windshields for the P.180 and has produced them since the program was launched. The same-design windshields PPG supplies Piaggio are available to operators for direct purchase, simplifying ordering and optimizing delivery timing. The PPG windshields are among the largest for general aviation aircraft. They are made of two plies of HERCULITE® II chemically strengthened glass by PPG, which has been proven in field service for commercial, regional and general aviation aircraft. The high strength-to-weight ratio and optical clarity of the design meet the operating requirements for the P.180. The lighter-weight hoop-tension-loaded design makes the windshield a structural component on the aircraft. To reduce the potential for moisture ingress, the windshield has a fiber glass Z-strap underneath the polysulfide hump seal. PPG 112 urethane provides a moisture-resistant bond for the outboard and core glass plies.
