RS 522 Tufting head

RS 522 Tufting head

RS 522 Tufting head

Product catalog summary
Overview:
The document describes the RS 522 tufting head, a device used for forming seams in composite materials using a single-thread method with one needle. This technology is applicable to various composites, including carbon, glass, and aramid fibers, and is suitable for complex 3D parts.

Advantages:
  • No interlace in stitching formation.
  • No thread tension and minimal thread direction changes.
  • Enhances local 3D-stiffness and strength in laminate-shaped fiber composite structures.
  • Zero potential for thread insertion errors.
  • Variable angle of penetration.

Features:
  • Electronically controlled stitching tool timing for needle, sewing foot, and robot movement compensation.
  • Thread cutting capability.
  • Optional thread consumption measurement.

Technical Specifications:
  • Number of needles: 1 KSL special tufting needle.
  • Seam upper side: double lock stitch without interlaces and interloops.
  • Seam lower side: open thread loop.
  • Stitch type: tufting technology.
  • Thread: 1 k roving (up to 2 k roving based on process ability).
  • Stitch length: 3 - 18 mm.
  • Material thickness: 2 - 35 mm.
  • Needle size: NM 250.
  • Infeed angle: 90°, adjustable from 45° to 135°.
  • Sewing pad: injection mould, foam (minimum foam thickness of 25 mm required).

Tool Changer:
The tool changer facilitates quick and easy interchange of different end effectors and interfaces for specific signals within a robot stitching system. It is essential for the production of sub-preforms and preforms, with applications in aerospace, automotive, wind energy, bridge building, and industrial lightweight construction.

RS 522 Tufting head-1

Tufting of composites Tufting head The tufting head is forming a seam with a single thread method by one needle. This needle penetrates the material and inserts the thread forming a loop at the lower end of the needle position. The loop can be placed either within or outside the material. The tufting head works on virtually all composites (carbon fibres, glass fibres, aramid), such as profile or stringer, even complex 3D-parts.
