Product catalog summary
Overview: This document provides comprehensive information on filter/separator cartridges used in aviation fuel handling, specifically adhering to the EI 1581 5th Edition specification. It covers cartridge types, applications, and specifications to ensure clean and dry aviation fuel.
Distribution System: A typical aviation fuel distribution system is described, including optional components like dehydrators, prefilters, and clay treaters to enhance fuel cleanliness and extend cartridge life.
Categories and Types: Cartridges are categorized based on fuel types: Category C for commercial aviation fuels, Category M for military fuels, and Category M100 for enhanced military fuels. Filter/separator vessels are classified into Type S, S-LD, and S-LW, each designed to handle varying amounts of water and dirt.
Coalescers: Coalescer cartridges serve as the first stage in filter/separator vessels, coalescing water particles and filtering out contaminants. They are made with fiberglass media and come in various designs for different applications.
Separator Cartridges: Used as the second stage in filter/separator vessels, these cartridges repel coalesced water drops. They are available in different media types, including Teflon® coated screen, synthetic, and pleated paper, each with specific cleaning and reuse capabilities.
Specifications: General specifications for cartridges include pressure ratings, temperature limits, and construction materials. The document also details the model number system for identifying cartridge specifications.
Performance and Maintenance: Emphasis is placed on maintaining uniform flow for optimal performance, with guidelines for cartridge maintenance and replacement.
Additional Information: Information on Parker Velcon's qualified products for the EI 1581 5th Edition and guidelines for obtaining similarity certification for existing vessels is included.
Cartridge Models: Various models, such as SO-3xxC and SO-3xxV, are listed, indicating uniform and variable hole patterns. Dimensions and media types, including pleated paper and synthetic options, are detailed.
Applications: Cartridges are designed for military and commercial fuel systems, suitable for jet fuel, avgas, and diesel applications, adhering to MIL-F-27629 and MIL-PRF-52308 specifications.
Compliance and Standards: Parker Velcon cartridges meet the EI 1581 5th Edition Specification, covering commercial and military fuels. Specific models are qualified for Category C, M, and M100.
Recommendations: Variable hole pattern cartridges are recommended for applications requiring precise flow distribution. Replacing variable pattern cartridges with uniform ones without performance validation is discouraged.
Maintenance and Replacement: Cartridges should be replaced when differential pressure exceeds 15 psi or after one year of service. Regular sump draining is crucial for maintaining performance.
Additional Features: The OS Series combination coalescer/separator cartridges are described, designed for specific housings with features like Teflon-coated screens and radial sump seals.
Technical Specifications and Guidelines: Detailed specifications and guidelines for Parker Velcon coalescer and separator systems used in Facet SuperFlex housings are provided, designed to remove water and dirt from diesel, jet fuel, and avgas.
Installation Instructions: Instructions for installing separator assemblies, including tie rod data and handling precautions, are provided.
Maintenance Instructions for Teflon Coated Screen Separator Cartridges: Guidelines for testing, cleaning, and handling separators are outlined, including pressure differential guidelines for cartridge changeout.

Coalescer Cartridges for Aviation I Series Coalescer • Cost effective particle and emulsified water removal from hydrocarbon fluids Coalescer cartridges are employed as the first stage in filter/separator vessels for hydrocarbon fluids. They perform two functions: (1) coalesce (combine) highly dispersed, emulsified water particles into larger water drops and (2) filter-out particulate contaminants. • Easy installation and replacement with one-piece design • Choice of Threaded Base or Open End cartridges • Choice of All-Fiberglass Media or Combination Fiberglass and Pleated Media • Field proven...

is accomplished by employing a tighter, finer filtration media. Flow direction is from inside to outside of the cartridge. This minimizes surface velocity and helps prevent the water drops from breaking up and being carried downstream. APPLICATION Coalescer cartridges are used primarily to coalesce emulsified water and remove particles from hydrocarbon fluids. The largest single application is the filtration of aviation jet fuel. They are also used with other types of fuels, process streams in refineries and petrochemical plants, and condensate streams where natural gas is produced. Other liquids...

DESCRIPTION Model Number System. Refer to the box at right. The one or two digit Series Designator relates to the approximate micron rating of each model coalescer cartridge. Note that this is a nominal rating and should be used for reference only. The "0"' "2” and "4” Series allfiberglass cartridges are rated at 25, 5, and .3 microns respectively. The "2” and "4” Series are commonly used with diesel and other fuel oils, and are a compromise between filtration efficiency (cartridge life) and water removing capability. They coalesce gross water, but normally do not remove fine water haze. The...
