ARINC 429 - 1

ARINC 429 ARINC 429 is the most common avionic data bus used in commercial and transport aircraft applications that needs point-to-point communication, interchangeability and interoperability between equipment. Its specification defines the electrical interfaces, data characteristics and communication protocols to support aircraft avionics networks. OPAL-RT’S SOLUTION OPAL-RT provides a high channel density ARINC 429 solution for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and rapid control prototyping applications, such as full authority digital engine/electronics control (FADEC) and aircraft systems components testing. Based on the Max Technologies PCI-400-2 carrier board, our solution allows connecting OPAL-RT simulators to ARINC 429 avionics data bus and facilitates the configuration of up to 32 independent channels for transmission (TX) and reception (RX) at a bit rate of either 12.5 kb/s or 100 kb/s. Transmission and reception are on separate ports, so many independent buses can be configured on the same simulator platform when a large number of avionics systems and devices are interfaced. The ARINC-429 driver allows transmission of messages on user request or at regular time intervals using an advanced scheduling scheme configurable for each message. The driver also offers event/odd parity and the configuration of many parameters, such as skew rate, inter-word gap and word length. It supports engineering unit conversions, various data encoding and data formats such as BCD (binary coded decimal), BNR (two’s complement binary coded) and DIS (discrete format). The reception mode offers filtering of messages from SDI and labels identifiers, error detection (parity and word errors), and polling and interrupt modes for optimized performance
