The fastest way to get Wi-Fi on board

Wireless Avionics Entertainment System by Northern Avionics WAvES is designed to be the fixed on-board Wi-Fi system easy to install, easy to use, low cost, low impact, high reliability, high performance. The system consists of one or more units called CELLs, which include all the expected standards services of an entertainment system and a lot of features appreciated by the airlines.

Is WAvES available for my fleet? YES! Narrow-body aircraft (i.e. B737 or A319/320/321) installation requires 1 or 2 CELLs; Wide-body aircraft (i.e. B767 or A330) installation requires up to 4 CELLs. As all CELLs are identical, more units means more redundancy for the system since the IFE would be capable of continued operations even with one single CELL left active.

Each CELL includes a state-of-the art triband IEEE 802.11ac WiFi Access Point with six local antennas, an 8-core server and a solid-state storage of 1TB to provide multimedia streaming (movies, musics, games, magazines) to all passengers with their portable electronics devices (PEDs). No required; WAvES uses a browserbased access, working with all the available standards (i.e. edge, firefox, chrome, safari).

When interfaced with other aircraft systems, WAvES offers a lot of services like: boarding music, company audio/video announcements, worldwide moving map with flight info and internet connectivity via satellite broadband. As well as continuous company contents update via 4G ground link, cabin systems management (i.e. cabin monitors, In-seat IFE and PSS) and passenger services (i.e. USB chargers) are also available.

All of the previous features are put together in each CELL with a remarkably small package, i.e. 318 x 160 x 60mm (12.5" x 6.3" x 2.4") weighing just over 1840g (4lbs). WAvES do not requires batteries or removable parts to be managed out of the aircraft. The system is installed so that all the cabin overhead bins are left free (in both narrow and wide bodies).

Based on the high reliability of the units (more than 60.000 flight hours as real MTBF) and on their redundancy. No spare units required when two or more CELLs are installed; two years warranty is granted. Three days (average) ground stop is required for a basic installation with the possibility to split the activities in multiple stops. Field support, if required, is provided together with the installation kit.

(DRM) schemes and content from all major Hollywood studios. Northern Avionics already cooperates with selected content providers and is always open to work with all the others available. DRM contents are easily loaded on board via USB Key, inserted into the CELLs for periodical update.

WAvES also directly supports non-Studio content such as company videos, welcome-on-board loops, company advertisements and magazines. All of this content can be managed directly by the user and uploaded constantly through the 4G ground link module (SIM card provided by the airline). The initial customized graphical interface is provided for free as part of the basic units for the airline.
