Product catalog summary

Overview: Materion Brush Performance Alloys' C95510 is an Aluminum-Nickel-Bronze alloy known for its high strength, ductility, and abrasion resistance, particularly under severe loading conditions. It is specified as AMS 4880 and is widely used in aerospace, oil & gas, and durable goods markets.

Manufacturing Process: The alloy is produced at Materion's state-of-the-art facility in Lorain, Ohio, using the proprietary EquaCast® process. This process ensures a uniform, fine-grained microstructure and excellent dispersion of alloying elements, resulting in superior quality and consistency.

Advantages: The EquaCast process provides several benefits:

  • Mechanical Properties: C95510 offers higher yield strength and ductility, with mechanical properties typically 20-30% above specification minimums.
  • Service Life: Enhanced corrosion resistance and fatigue life due to refined microstructure.
  • Quality: The Vertical Continuous Casting Process reduces porosity compared to other methods.
  • Machinability: Rated superior by various customers, from major airframers to small machine shops.
  • Cost Effectiveness: AMS 4880 can substitute AMS 4640, saving weight and machining time.

Chemical Composition: The alloy consists of:

  • Aluminum: 9.7 – 10.9%
  • Nickel: 4.5 – 5.5%
  • Iron: 2.0 – 3.5%
  • Manganese: 1.5% max
  • Zinc: 0.3% max
  • Tin: 0.2% max
  • Copper: 78.0% min

Mechanical Properties: For quench hardened and temper annealed AMS 4880 castings:

  • Size Range: 2.0 - 4.0 inches (50.8-100 mm) and >4.0 - 17.0 inches (>100-432 mm)
  • Tensile Strength: 105.0 ksi (720 MPa) and 95.0 ksi (660 MPa)
  • Yield Strength: 62.5 ksi (430 MPa) and 56.0 ksi (390 MPa)
  • Elongation: 9%

Availability: Standard sizes are available with size tolerances specified to ASTM B505. Custom sizes and shapes are available upon request.

DATA SHEET C955I0 Materion Brush Performance Alloys' C955I0 is an Aluminum-Nickel-Bronze alloy that combines high strength, ductility, and good abrasion resistance under severe loading conditions. This material, specified as AMS 4880, is frequently used for very demanding aerospace applications, including, but not limited to: bushings, spherical and rod end bearings, rub pads, and wear strips. This material is also commonly used for applications in the oil & gas and other durable goods markets. Materion Brush Performance Alloys’ 50,000 square foot mill in Lorain, Ohio is a state-of-the-art facility which utilizes a proprietary technology process to produce the EquaCast® microstructure. This process produces an extremely uniform, fine grained microstructure and promotes excellent dispersion of alloying elements. This allows Materion Brush Performance Alloys to provide materials of unparalleled quality and consistency. C95510 (AMS 4880) offers several significant advantages over other materials available in the marketplace due to the EquaCast process: • Higher and more consistent mechanical properties: C95510 offers higher yield strength and ductility minimums on product over 1.0” (25.4 mm) according to AMS 4880. Additionally, Materion Brush Performance Alloys product offers typical mechanical property values of 20 - 30% above specification minimums. • Improved service life: C95510 (AMS 4880) offers enhanced corrosion resistance and fatigue life due to the alloy dispersion and refined, “wrought-like” microstructure. • Superior quality: Materion Brush Performance Alloys Vertical Continuous Casting Process is less likely to produce porosity than other casting methods used for manufacturing this product. • Ease of use: The machinability of C95510 (AMS 4880) has been rated superior by customers from major airframers to small machine shops. • Cost effectiveness: AMS 4880 is commonly allowed as a substitute for AMS 4640, saving weight and machining time.
