Remote Actuator Unit(RAU) with Lockout for DD-Frame(D5)

Product catalog summary
Overview: This document serves as a technical data sheet for the Remote Actuator Unit (RAU) with Lockout for DD-Frame (D5) circuit breakers. It outlines the specifications, operational guidelines, and wiring configurations for the RAU, which automates the switching of a DD-Frame circuit breaker for both remote and manual operations.
Specifications:
  • The RAU operates within a voltage range of 18 Vdc to 80 Vdc and can actuate up to three poles of a circuit breaker.
  • It includes an LED for mode and status indication, with a color indicator for the latching mechanism's position (green for OFF, red for ON).
  • The unit is compact, matching the DD-frame outline, and can be locked out to prevent manual operation.
  • It is suitable for various applications, including battery management, telecommunications, railways, solar systems, and system automation.
Technical Data:
  • Actuation signal voltage ranges from 3.3 Vdc to 60 Vdc for ON and 0.0 Vdc to 0.5 Vdc for OFF.
  • Power consumption is less than 250 mW in idle mode and less than 7.5 W during actuation.
  • The RAU can perform over 2000 operations and operates within an ambient temperature range of -20 °C to +65 °C.
Installation Instructions:
  • Ensure the circuit breaker is in the OFF position and the RAU switch is set to REMOTE before connecting to power.
  • Follow the connection diagram for wiring, ensuring the RAU LED flashes three times during initialization.
  • The RAU front switch allows toggling between REMOTE and MANUAL modes.
Operation:
  • In REMOTE mode, the RAU can switch the circuit breaker ON or OFF based on the actuate signal (HIGH for ON, LOW for OFF).
  • Manual operation is possible by setting the front switch to MANUAL, which disables remote actuation.
  • Precautions include not moving the circuit breaker handles during remote actuation and allowing a 3-second interval between state changes.
Ordering Information: Detailed ordering codes are provided for various configurations, including frame type, mounting, handle type, termination, voltage and frequency, time delay characteristics, and more.
Connection Diagrams: Illustrations show the wiring and connection setup for the RAU, including signal and supply voltage connections.
LED State Indication: The LED provides various indications:
  • Flashes 3 times for initialization.
  • Flashes 3 times every 4 seconds for fault state.
  • ON for remote actuation mode.
  • OFF for manual operation mode.
  • Blinking indicates manual operation is not possible.
Wiring Configuration: The RAU signal out is used to monitor the status of the circuit breaker and varies depending on the load type. It is connected to the adjacent pole LOAD side and isolated from the control.
Actuation Signal Voltage: For actuation signal voltages above 60 Vdc, an external resistor must be added. The document provides a formula and examples for calculating the resistor value.
Application Notes: The signal out function is versatile and depends on the specific application, particularly under resistive loads.
Contact Information: Contact details for CBI-electric in Australia, South Africa, and the USA are provided.

Remote Actuator Unit(RAU) with Lockout for DD-Frame(D5)-1

Remote Actuator Unit (RAU) with Lockout for DD-Frame (D5) Remote actuator unit is factory-fitted on the left hand side of the DD-Frame circuit breaker The RAU module is designed to function on a wide voltage range: 18 Vdc to 80 Vdc The RAU can be supplied from the main system voltage or a standalone source The DD-Frame circuit breaker operates on the main system voltage, AC or DC LED for status indication Selectable remote or manual operation Provides status of the load side of the circuit breaker Remote switching operation requires a high or low signal Colour indicator for state of circuit breaker red (ON) or green (OFF) Actuation of circuit breaker occurs internally Compact size (19 mm, matching DD-frame outline) Can be paired with up to a 3 pole DD-frame circuit breaker Device can be locked out to prevent manual operation Battery management Telecommunications Railways Solar System automation Switching operations in distant, inconvenient, or unreachable environments The remote actuation unit (RAU) is a factory-fitted module that enables the automated switching of a DD-Frame circuit breaker. The RAU internally actuates the circuit breaker both ON and OFF. The RAU is mounted on the left hand side of the circuit breaker and can actuate up to three poles. The RAU is available with circuit breakers with a standard toggle handle only. The unit has an LED that provides an indication of the mode of operation (remote or manual) and status. The second is a colour indicator which shows the position of the latching mechanism of the connected circuit breaker - green for OFF and red for ON. The RAU provides the option to set the operation mode between remote or manual. This is selected by a switch situated on the front of the RAU.
