Introduction
magicLPV is a system developed by GMV to enable test pilots to fly SBAS augmented GPS APV approach procedures down to LPV minima. It utilizes the magicSBAS operational test-bed to demonstrate the benefits of GPS and SBAS to various stakeholders.
Operating Modes
The system supports both real-time and post-processing modes, utilizing GPS and SBAS augmentations like EGNOS and WAAS.
Supported Flight Phases
magicLPV provides guidance during the intermediate and final segments of the approach, adhering to RNP APCH specifications down to LP and LPV minima.
Engineering Displays
The system offers displays for visible satellites, dilution of precision, navigation solutions, protection levels, flight technical error, and histograms.
Supported Standards
magicLPV complies with RTCA/DO-208 (GPS MOPS) and RTCA/DO-229C (SBAS MOPS) standards.
System Components
The system includes a ground transmitter, an onboard rack, and a pilot display. The ground transmitter receives augmentation messages from the internet and retransmits them via UHF radio. The onboard rack processes these messages and provides guidance to the pilot through a tablet-PC display.
Key Advantages
- Enables GPS/SBAS procedures in regions without SBAS service.
- Easy installation and configuration.
- Provides realistic flight guidance emulating a CDI/VDI display.
Main Features
- Modular system supporting GPS/SBAS APV procedures.
- Wireless installation with no cabin cabling.
- Onboard rack powered by batteries for over 7 hours.
- Compatible with magicSBAS and real SBAS signals.
- Includes tools for SBAS signal and performance analysis.
Conclusion
magicLPV is a versatile and portable system that enhances GPS/SBAS approach capabilities, offering significant benefits in areas lacking SBAS services.
