Product catalog summary
Introduction
EIT Avionics has developed the Enhanced Situational Awareness Information Display (ESAID®) to provide helicopter pilots with real-time flight performance data, enhancing safety and compliance with aircraft flight limitations. ESAID® improves situational awareness by monitoring local environmental conditions and flight operations, displaying information to the pilot with visual and audible alerts.
Technology and Functionality
ESAID® uses proprietary technology to capture and display critical flight information, including weather and aircraft data, to calculate flight parameters and performance limitations. The system features five main screens: Weight, Settings, Hover, Ground, and Cruise. These screens can be manually selected or automatically sequenced based on local conditions. Key data displayed includes manifold pressure, height above terrain, density altitude, outside air temperature, indicated airspeed, and vertical speed.
Screen Descriptions
  • Weight Screen: Allows manual entry of aircraft weight, assuming fully-loaded if not entered.
  • Settings Screen: Provides options for instrument and aircraft-specific selections.
  • Hover Screen: Offers an alternative display for low altitude maneuvers.
  • Ground Screen: Displays local conditions and performance limitations.
  • Cruise Screen: Condenses the most information and is intended for frequent use.
Performance Limitations and Alerts
ESAID® calculates performance limitations such as In Ground Effect Hover Limitation, Out of Ground Effect Hover Limitation, Maximum Density Altitude, Maximum Continuous Power, Five Minute Power, Velocity Never Exceed, Settling with Power, and Possible Freezing Conditions. The system alerts pilots when specific performance limitations are exceeded, using visual and audible alerts displayed as markers on a horizontal bar graph.
Safety of Operations
ESAID® enhances situational awareness and flight safety by providing real-time information based on the aircraft-specific Pilot's Operating Handbook (POH).

Brochure ESAID-1

ESAID Enhanced Situational Awareness Information Display EIT Avionics developed the Enhanced Situational Awareness Information Display (ESAID®) to provide helicopter pilots and operators with the ability to receive real-time flight performance data to enhance safety and compliance with aircraft flight limitations. ESAID® allows operators to monitor, with high-precision, helicopter flight and operating conditions to improve situational awareness. ESAID® monitors local environmental conditions and flight operation. Information is displayed to the pilot to provide constant awareness of flight performance limitations using both visual and audible alerts. Weight Screen Ground Screen ESAID® uses proprietary technology to capture and display critical flight information. ESAID® captures specific weather and aircraft data in real-time to calculate flight parameters and performance limitations. Data is relayed immediately to the pilot. ESAID® has five main screens: the Weight, Settings, Hover, Ground, and Cruise screens. While any screen may be manually selected, ESAID® can be set to operate automatically, sequencing between the Weight Screen, the Ground Screen, and the Cruise Screen, depending on the local conditions. The Weight Screen allows pilots to manually enter an aircraft weight, but assumes fully-loaded if nothing is entered. The Settings Screen provides a place to make instrument and aircraft-specific selections. The Hover Screen provides an alternative display for low altitude maneuvers. The Ground Screen displays local conditions and performance limitations. The Cruise Screen displays the most information in a condensed format and is the screen which is intended to be used the most often. ESAID® also monitors the flight data to detect other conditions, such as an auto-rotation or excessive sink rate. ESAID® data displayed: ESAID® performance limitations calculated: Manifold Pressure (or Engine Torque) In Ground Effect Hover Limitation (IGE) Height above terrain (HAT) (if RADAR included) Out of Ground Effect Hover Limitation (OGE) Density altitude (DA) Maximum Density Altitude (MDA) Outside air temperature (OAT) Maximum C°ntinu°us P°wer (MCp) I ndicated Airspeed (IAS) Five Minute Power (5MP) Vertical Speed (VSI) Velocity, Never Exceed (VNE) Settling with Power (SWP) Possible Freezing Conditions (FRZ)

Cruise Screen Hover Screen ESAID® notifies the pilot when specific performance limitations are exceeded using both visual and audible alerts. Shown in the figure below, System Alerts are displayed on the right-side of the screen when active. As seen in the screen depictions above, the performance limitations are expressed as a marker on a horizontal bar graph, representing the data, to show how close the aircraft is to that specific limitation.
