W-Series Junction Boxes

Product catalog summary
Overview:
The document details the 4EW-Series Junction Boxes by Eaton’s Crouse-Hinds Business, suitable for both hazardous and non-hazardous locations. These boxes serve various industrial purposes such as pull boxes, enclosures for splices and taps, and housing apparatus and instruments.

Applications and Selection:
Selection of junction boxes depends on environmental location, conductor size and number, conduit layout, and required flexibility. Options include special covers, hinged covers, materials and finishes, equipment mounting plates, and conduit or device openings.

Product Specifications:
Types of junction boxes include WAB, WCB, WJB, WJBF, and WEB, featuring raintight, watertight, and dust-tight capabilities. Sizes range from 4" x 4" x 2" to 72" x 30" x 16".

Features and Materials:
Standard materials are iron alloy bodies, heavy-gauge steel covers, neoprene gaskets, and stainless steel cover screws, with hot dip galvanized finishes for durability.

Certifications and Compliances:
The junction boxes meet NEMA standards (3, 4, 5, 12, 250) and are suitable for Class II, Division 1, Groups E, F, G, and Class III environments.

Ordering Information:
Boxes can be ordered with drilled and tapped conduit openings or slip holes, adhering to minimum spacing limitations. Factory-installed mounting plates and custom conduit holes are available upon consultation.

Ordering Process for Junction Boxes with Conduit Openings:
  • Option 1: Submit a sketch with specified openings, following spacing limitations in Table 1.
  • Option 2:
    1. Select a standard arrangement from Table 2 based on conduit entries.
    2. Choose a symbol from Table 3 for each opening.
    3. Verify selected openings using Table 4 based on box size and spacing dimensions.

Example of Catalog Number Logic:
  1. Select the required box (e.g., WAB121208).
  2. Specify desired openings (e.g., one 1/2" hole on top, two 1" holes on sides, three 1/2" holes on bottom).
  3. Choose arrangement 3, allowing up to three openings per side.
  4. Substitute symbols for openings in clockwise order starting with location "a" and write the catalog number in three parts: box number, arrangement number, and symbols for conduit openings.

Tables Overview:
  • Table 1: Minimum spacing between centers of conduits based on size.
  • Table 2: Standard conduit arrangements.
  • Table 3: Symbols for openings, differentiating between drilled and tapped holes and slip holes.
  • Table 4: Maximum size and number of drilled and tapped conduit openings, with spacing dimensions for different box sizes.

W-Series Junction BoxesApplication and Selection Applications: Junction boxes, designed for hazardous and non-hazardous locations, are used in a variety of industries to perform the following functions: • As a pull box • To provide enclosures for splices and taps • As a mounting box for multi-device control stations • For housing apparatus, instruments, and other devices Quick Selector Chart: Considerations for Selection: • Environmental location - the physical location of the junction box will call for proper construction of the box to meet National Electrical Code requirements and will affect the material and finish needed to meet weather and corrosive conditions, if present. • Number and size of conductors -combined with the function to be performed (i.e., splicing, pull box), determines the amount of space needed, and therefore, the required physical dimensions of the box. • Conduit layout - determines the number, size, and location of the conduit openings in the box. It will also determine the type of mounting required (i.e., flush or surface positioning of the box). • Flexibility required - if changes in the electrical system are anticipated, the box chosen should be easily adaptable, either by construction or size to the future system. Options and Accessories: A wide variety of options and accessories for special application are available for the various junction box families. These can be selected once the type of junction box has been determined. These options are shown on the individual pages. Some of the options available include: • Special covers • Hinged covers • Materials and finishes • Equipment mounting plates • Conduit or device openings • Corro-free™ epoxy powder coat -information available on request fLength and width are inside dimensions. Depth is inside dimension without cover. Drilled and Tapped Conduit Openings or Slip Holes: All W-Series cast-iron junction boxes may be ordered with drilled and tapped conduit openings or slip holes - subject to minimum spacing limitations.
