BEUMER Remote Encoding - 1

FEATURES • Image based encoding • Intuitive user interface • Web interface and tablet • Supports integration with OCR • Supports offsite encoding • Capture of images for tracking BENEFITS • Reduced manual bag handling • Uninterrupted baggage flow • First in first out • Releases the operator from a fixed MES position • Scalable fall-back solution if missing BSM data • Reduced operating costs Shorter connection times are an important part of the overall passenger experience, but they also put pressure on the baggage handling process to avoid short-shipments of baggage. Remote encoding via VCS can be the solution to this issue. An analysis carried out revealed that within an overall connection time of 45 minutes there are typically just 7 minutes available for the Baggage Handling System (BHS) to process each item of baggage. • 18 mins Aircraft to Transfer belt • 7 mins BHS Processing • 20 mins Chute to Aircraft Whilst most baggage is handled by a fully automated process within these time-frames, there remains the challenge of bag tags which cannot be read by the automated system. Typically, these bags are directed to a Manual Encoding Station (MES). This process of transporting and handling the bag can take several minutes. In case of irregular situations where the Bag Source Messages (BSM data) is just not available, it may cause a bottleneck at the MES which can lead to a high number of short-shipped bags, even when the airport is not operating at peak capacity. In addition to restricting the efficiency of the baggage handling process, shortshipments also incur a high cost for the airport and for the airlines. crBPLanT IBEUMERGROUP

VCS ENCODING GUI • Best image selection • Automatic ROI • Zoom/pan BEUMERGROUP FIXED MES OR REMOTE ENCODING The integration of a Video Coding System (VCS) into the BHS allows bag source information to be encoded while the bag remains in motion within the main BHS. In the event of a noread bag tag, an image is sent via the VCS to an operator who encodes the information remotely via a workstation or tablet. This saves valuable time by ensuring that the baggage flow is not interrupted in addition to freeing operations staff from manning a fixed MES position. An optional Optical Character...
