These connectors are suitable for various configurations including board-to-board, board-to-cable, and cable-to-cable connections, and are tested for outgassing and residual magnetism.
Specifications:
  • The connectors meet ESCC 3401 and MIL-PRF-83513 standards.
  • Available in layouts with 9 to 51 cavities.
  • Contact centers are spaced 1.27 mm apart, with 1.09 mm between rows.
  • Features include non-magnetic, non-outgassing properties, and moisture/humidity seals.
Ordering Information:
  • ESA quality level connectors have specific codes for shell finish, testing level, shell size, contact type, mounting, and termination type.
  • FR022 quality level connectors are commercial space grade with similar coding.
Materials and Finishes:
  • Shells are made from aluminum alloy with electroless nickel or gold over nickel finishes.
  • Insulators are made from LCP thermoplastic, and contacts from copper alloy with a gold finish.
  • Various materials are used for housings, seals, screwlocks, and accessories.
Quality Levels:
  • ESA Quality Level: Suitable for flight equipment, satellites, and launchers.
  • FR022 Quality Level: Suitable for engineering models and ground equipment.
Performance Specifications:
  • Temperature range: -55°C to +125°C.
  • Working voltage: 150 Vrms at sea level, 100 Vrms at 33,000 m altitude.
  • Rated current varies by wire type and number of contacts.
  • Insulation resistance of 5000 MW min and voltage proof of 600 Vrms.
  • Mechanical endurance of 500 cycles mating/unmating.
Contact Design: The MicropinTM contact system uses a "twist-pin" spring contact for reliable performance, accommodating severe misalignment during mating.
Dimensions: Detailed dimensions are provided for various shell sizes, including plug and receptacle components.
Procedures:
  • Termination types are specified for different shell sizes, with availability indicated for each type.
  • Mounting conditions and panel cutouts are described for both front and rear mounting options.
Standards and Compliance:
  • Compliance with standards such as ESCC 390101302, ESCC 390100256, and MIL-W-16878/4 is noted for various cable types.
  • Maximum torque specifications are provided for certain components.
Recommendations:
  • Other termination types are available upon request for specific applications.
  • Ensure compatibility with specified shell sizes and mounting conditions for optimal performance.
Key Data from Tables:
  • Shell sizes range from 9 to 51, with detailed dimensions for each size.
  • PCB layouts are provided for both 90° bent and straight PCB terminations, with specific contact arrangements.

3401-029 Microminiature MDM Connectors Contact Design The high-performance and reliable contact characteristics are obtained by the MicropinTM contact system. The flexible “twist-pin” spring contact consists of 7 strands of 0,127 (.005) diameter beryllium copper wire helically wound around a core of 3 strands 0,09 (.0035) diameter soft copper wire. This wire bundle is crimped into a sleeve at one end. The other end is terminated with a hemispherically shaped weld. The wire bundle is compressed to create a bulge with a diameter slightly larger than the socket inside diameter. The pin elongates...
