Titanium Grade 2

Titanium Grade 2

Product catalog summary
General Characteristics
Titanium and its alloys are known for their high strength-to-weight ratio and excellent corrosion resistance, making them suitable for various industries such as medical, aerospace, automotive, and more. Titanium often replaces heavier and less efficient materials, leading to more reliable and durable systems.

Special Characteristics
Commercially Pure (CP) Titanium is available in four grades, with Grade 2 offering a balance of strength and corrosion resistance. It is particularly noted for its biocompatibility, making it ideal for medical applications.

Applications
Titanium Grade 2 is used in orthopedic implants, aircraft parts, marine components, condenser tubing, and heat exchangers.

Powder Specification
The Arcam Titanium Grade 2 powder has a particle size of 45 to 100 microns, ensuring safe handling. Refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for detailed safety information.

Post Processing
Heat Treatment: Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) is recommended for fatigue-loaded components with parameters of 920°C, 100 MPa, and 120 minutes.
Machining: Titanium Grade 2 parts have good machinability with low cutting speeds, high feed rates, and the use of sharp tools and cutting fluids.
Welding: Can be welded using conventional processes, but requires special measures due to its chemical reactivity.

Chemical Specification
Arcam Titanium Grade 2 meets ASTM F67 standards for surgical implants, with specific limits on elements like carbon, iron, oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen.

Mechanical Properties
Typical properties include a yield strength of 540 MPa, ultimate tensile strength of 570 MPa, elongation of 21%, and reduction of area of 55%, surpassing ASTM F67 requirements.

Microstructure
The EBM process results in a fine α-grain microstructure due to rapid cooling, with the material naturally aged in the build chamber.

Arcam AB provides advanced manufacturing solutions with their Free Form Fabrication machines, offering geometric freedom and superior material properties.

Titanium Grade 2-2

Grade 2 Titanium General characteristics The high strength, low weight ratio and outstanding corrosion resistance inherent to titanium and its alloys has led to a wide and diversified range of successful applications which demand high levels of reliable performance in surgery and medicine as well as in aerospace, automotive, chemical plant, power generation, oil and gas extraction, sports, and other major industries. In the majority of these and other engineering applications titanium has replaced heavier, less serviceable or less costeffective materials. Designing with titanium taking all factors...

Titanium Grade 2-3

Titanium Grade 2 parts manufactured in the EBM process have a microstructure consisting of fine α-grains, thanks to the rapid cooling of the melt pool. The build chamber is kept at an elevated temperature throughout the entire build, and the material thus comes out of the EBM process in a naturally aged condition.
