Introduction: Shanghai's Pudong International Airport's Terminal Two (T2) is the first in China to install broadloom carpet in passenger areas, aiming to enhance comfort and reduce noise. The carpet covers over 100,000 square meters and is made from Bentley custom loop pile carpet with Antron® Lumena™ solution dyed nylon.

Design Objectives: The primary goal was to create a cozy and quiet environment. After consulting with other airports in the Asia Pacific region, the decision was made to use carpet instead of hard flooring to minimize noise in waiting areas.

Material Selection: The Shanghai Airport Authority's Construction Project Team explored various fiber options to ensure durability under heavy traffic from over 40 million passengers annually. Antron® Lumena™ was chosen for its colorfastness and stain resistance.

Educational Initiatives: INVISTA organized a seminar, 'Specify and Select,' to educate on yarn specifications for carpet bidding. This included maintenance training to enhance carpet longevity.

Technical Features: Antron® Lumena™ fiber is designed to resist soiling and stains, with a hollow square shape that refracts light to reduce soiling effects. Its structure offers resistance to liquid stains, pile height retention, and wear.

Conclusion: The installation of Antron® Lumena™ carpet at Shanghai Pudong International Airport sets a benchmark for future airport renovations in China, offering durability and sustainability.
