1 Description of sensors In 1993, the first sensors were tested in practice, and since then they have been continuously improved. Since 2004, the sensors 9xxxx (9KT01, 9KT02...) have been produced by iris-GmbH. The sensors 9xxxx contain a passive and an active component, an A/D transformer and a serial interface. The passive component consists of a pyroelectric detector with 6 individual detector elements. The detector is a receiver being sensitive in the infrared wave range from 9 to 12 µm.
