MEDIA RELEASE IFPL demonstrates its new USB 3.0 at AIX 2016 Bringing high power and high speed data to the passenger Visitors to stand 2C40 at AIX 2016 will see IFPL’s new USB-A 3.0 power and data module; providing high power and data transfer at-seat for Portable Electronic Devices (PEDs) Research shows that over 90% of passengers take PEDs onboard. This new product from IFPL combines USB charging with a data transfer capability in one industry standard module. David Thomas, Vice President of Business Development at IFPL comments: “This product takes USB-A data to the next level to meet passengers’ current and future requirements. ” In addition to high power charging (2A, 5V DC), the USB-A 3.0 standard offers a number of improvements on the USB-A 2.0, including high data transfer speeds of up to 5Gb/s. These speeds are over 10 times faster than that of USB-A 2.0. The data transfer capability allows passengers to interface their PED to the IFE systems to display hi-definition movies, photos or allow the airline’s app to provide information for improved passenger personalisation. Another optional feature of this device is its customisable soft light guide allowing the colour and brightness to be adjusted to support the time of day and the airline’s brand identity. It has been designed with an MTBF of greater than 50,000 hours. This module is designed to be easily incorporated for line-fit or as a retrofit onto existing fleets. ---- ENDS --
